Why you should walk

icon3Pasadena is full of great places to walk and involve yourself and your friends in a fun, easy, and low-cost path to fitness. Research shows that those who walk with a group are often more successful in meeting their own fitness goals.Walking is the most beneficial, all-purpose physical activity for most of us. It treats the body with great respect, and does not place excessive stress on the joints. Walking enhances physical, social, spiritual, and emotional health. Best of all, walking can be done by just about everyone, anytime, and anywhere.

By walking regularly, you may see many of these benefits:

  • lowers stress
  • increases energy
  • increases muscle tone
  • promotes weight loss or easier weight maintenance
  • increases cardiovascular (“heart”) fitness
  • maintains metabolism and bone density
  • reduces heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and cancer risks
  • improves sleep feels good to reach a fitness goal
  • learn more about your community
  • develop a connection with friends, family, or colleagues
 

Up and Moving 2011


We are excited to be developing our plans for 2011, with our continued goal of creating a community of walkers in Pasadena.

Current plans include:

Partnering (again) with the YMCA and the Pasadena Marathon to train and sponsor 100 Pasadena children and families in the 5K event on Marathon weekend.

Promoting community fitness walks throughout Pasadena.  See http://www.meetup.com/Rose-Bowl-Walkers/ to get started.

Advocating to make walking for fitness free and logistically easy in the City of Pasadena.
