Up & Moving Group Spotlight
The McKinley YMCA Adventures program introduced the Up & Moving program this spring to promote and engage both the students in our program and their families in a positive physical activity where everyone can participate and have fun.
The teachers in the Pasadena YMCA’s after school program have truly become involved with motivating the kids; the teachers with their students set reasonable goals that are achievable and then they slowly but surely challenging each child to do more and more, a little at a time.
The students have pedometers that help them keep track of their goals and progress, which excites even the youngest group, our kindergartners.
The after school program participants earned Up & Moving T- shirts at the McKinley School Health Fair April 21 for achieving their first set of goals. This has motivated the children to continue setting new goals with enthusiasm. Our older group of students has now started to count their steps when doing other fitness activities making it more interesting as they notice how much progress they are making. It is such a pleasure to see students at McKinley YMCA After School Program “up & moving”!
Young & Healthy Pasadena walks 1,084 miles!

Young & Healthy’s mission is to provide high-quality health care for uninsured and underinsured children, and to improve the quality of life for all children in the greater Pasadena area through prevention, education, and enhanced health services. As a co-founder of Up & Moving, we also underline the health benefits of exercise for children in our fitness programs, and support and promote Up & Moving. Our staff members (pictured above) have committed themselves to walking one mile for every child who received direct health care from a doctor last year through us – 1,084 children. Well on our way walking those many miles, we are proud and delighted to be affiliated with this wonderfully effective - and fun - fitness program!
